Leaf Collection
The City of Miamisburg offers a leaf collection service to our residents which begins October 28, 2024 and ends December, 20, 2024. For collection purposes, the city is divided up into five (5) different zones. To find out which zone you reside in, call Public Works at (937) 847-6635.
Key Dates and Information
- Program start: October 28, 2024
- Final round end date: December 20, 2024
- To ensure your leaves are collected, have them at the curb by December 16, 2024.
Zone System and Updates
Miamisburg uses a five-zone collection system. Crews start in Zone 1 and progress numerically through the remaining zones. The city aims to service each zone up to four times throughout the collection season.
To find out which zone you're in, call Public Works at (937) 847-6635. For real-time updates on which zone crews are currently working in:
- Check the city's social media accounts
- Call the 24-hour Public Works Hotline at (937) 847-6454, which is updated on weekdays.
Residential Guidelines
To help the collection process run smoothly, please follow these guidelines:
- Rake leaves to the curb or edge of the street, not onto the street itself.
- Do not bag leaves; bagged leaves will not be collected.
- Keep leaves away from storm drains and catch basins to prevent water pollution and flooding.
- Ensure leaves are not under or around parked cars.
- Separate grass clippings, tree branches and other debris from the leaves. These items can clog or damage the machines.
- Place leaves away from obstacles like mailboxes, fire hydrants, and landscaping rocks.
- For safety, do not allow children to play in leaf piles near the street.
Weather Considerations
Every leaf season is different. Mother nature decides when leaves fall, and some years the leaves drop all at once. Although we make every effort to collect leaves as quickly as possible, it may take longer for crews to complete collection during the period of heaviest leaf fall. The leaf collection schedule may be affected by weather conditions. Rain, cold weather, or snow can disrupt the process and freezing temperatures may cause leaves to freeze in piles, requiring manual breaking.
Alternatives to Curbside Collection
If you prefer not to wait for curbside collection, consider these alternatives:
- Mulch leaves with a lawnmower to improve soil structure and reduce fertilizer needs.
- Compost leaves in your backyard.
- You can bag leaves for regular Rumpke trash pickup. Contact Public Works at (937) 847-6635 for details.
- Montgomery County residents can dispose of yard waste for free at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility at 1001 Encrete Lane, Moraine OH 45439.
By following these guidelines and staying informed about the collection schedule, we can work together to keep Miamisburg clean and beautiful throughout the fall season. Remember, leaf collection is a community effort and your cooperation helps ensure an efficient process for everyone.
