Zone System and Updates

Miamisburg uses a five-zone collection system. Crews start in Zone 1 and progress numerically through the remaining zones, aiming to service each zone up to four times during the collection season.

To determine your zone, contact the Public Works Department at (937) 847-6635. For real-time updates on the crews' current location, check the city's social media accounts or call the 24-hour Public Works Hotline at (937) 847-6454, which is updated on weekdays.

Residential Leaf Collection Guidelines

To help the leaf collection process run smoothly, please follow these guidelines:

  • Rake leaves to the curb or edge of the street, not onto the street itself. Bagged leaves will not be collected.
  • Keep leaves away from storm drains and catch basins to prevent water pollution and flooding. Ensure leaves are not under or around parked cars.
  • Separate grass clippings, tree branches and other debris from the leaves, as these items can clog or damage the collection equipment.
  • Place leaf piles away from obstacles like mailboxes, fire hydrants and landscaping rocks.
  • For safety, do not allow children to play in leaf piles near the street.

Weather Considerations

Leaf collection is highly dependent on unpredictable weather conditions. While we work diligently to collect leaves quickly, the timing and pace of leaf drop can vary significantly from year to year based on Mother Nature's whims. Some seasons see leaves fall all at once, overwhelming our collection crews. Inclement weather like rain, cold or snow can further disrupt the process and freezing temperatures may even cause leaves to freeze into solid piles that require manual breaking. Despite our best efforts, leaf collection schedules are inevitably impacted by these uncontrollable environmental factors.

Alternatives to Curbside Collection

If curbside leaf collection is not an option, consider these alternative disposal methods:

  • Mulch leaves with a lawnmower to improve soil structure and reduce fertilizer needs.
  • Compost leaves in your backyard.
  • Bag leaves for regular Rumpke trash pickup. Contact the Public Works Department at (937) 847-6635 for details.
  • Montgomery County residents can dispose of yard waste for free at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility at 1001 Encrete Lane, Moraine OH 45439.

By following these guidelines and staying informed about the collection schedule, we can work together to keep the city clean and beautiful throughout the fall season. Leaf collection is a community effort and your cooperation helps ensure an efficient process for everyone.
