Miamisburg Initiates Transportation Planning Effort
Public Open House Scheduled for November 16, 2023
In August, the City of Miamisburg, in coordination with CT Consultants of Cincinnati, Ohio, launched a planning effort to replace the Miamisburg Major Thoroughfare Plan last adopted in 1993. The current Thoroughfare Plan no longer serves the transportation needs of a 21st century community, therefore city leadership is in the process of developing and adopting a new, modern Transportation Plan.
The Miamisburg Transportation Plan will incorporate all the transportation design advancements that occurred over the past 30 years. Additionally, where the current Thoroughfare Plan addresses only vehicular transportation, the new Transportation Plan will incorporate the needs of all transportation users including pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, children, and individuals with restricted mobility. The new plan will serve the needs of all users by identifying specific elements required within the public right-of-way, such as sidewalks, handicap ramps, bike lanes, shared-use paths, lighting, pedestrian amenities, intersection crosswalks, and ADA-compliant traffic signals. These elements will be required as roadways are updated by the City, or where adjacent private development requires improvements along the existing public street frontage.
The first opportunity for public involvement will be an Open House on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Miamisburg Branch of the Dayton Metro Library. Staff from the City and CT Consultants will be on hand to share background data to be used for plan development, and accept comments from the public about the opportunities and challenges when travelling within and through the City. The Miamisburg Transportation Plan will be developed throughout the winter and spring months, with formal Council consideration sometime in early 2024.
